The Haller / Holler Family

 

Johann Heinrich Haller was born 02 Sep 1719 in Alsace, the son of Heinrich and Anna Catharina (Carle) Haller.  He was baptized 06 Sep 1719 at Evangelical Kirche in Mattstall, Alsace, France. 

Johann Heinrich came to America with his parents aboard the ship Samuel from Rotterdam with Hugh Percy as captain.  They landed in Philadelphia on 17 Aug 1733. 

The family moved to Muddy Creek, Cocalico Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. where they bought land.

Heinrich married Anna Maria Hundsecker Holler (Hundsecker)Anna Maria  (born 02 Sep 1719 in Oberausbach, Zweibruken, Pfaltz, Germany, daughter of Peter and Anna Benedicta (Welt) Hundsecker) on 13 Aug 1740 in Lancaster Co., PA.  Other sources give her birthplace as Breitfur. She came to America with her parents, arriving in Philadelphia on 28 Oct 1738.

They joined the Muddy Creek Reformed Church in 1746 where John Henry served as the minister for a time.  They moved to Fredericktown, PA. in 1751. and later to Allemangel (Emmaus).

They moved to Lititz on 01 Aug 1755 where he ran the congregational farm.  They lived in Klein's log cabin at the town's spring, apparently on the north side of the creek. 

On 20 Aug 1756 Henry and his assistants moved the old house from the spring to the top of the hill between the school house and Heil's, now located at 79 Main Street.

On 11 Nov 1758 "Brother Haller brought along from Philadelphia a bell which was used to give notice at the time of the meeting."

On 16 Oct 1760 Brother Haller move to the new farm house across the creek.  His former house was then occupied by Dr. Frederick Otto, the first druggist in Lancaster County.  This house still stands at 79 Main Street.

Henry Holler made frequent wagon trips between Lititz and Bethlehem, probably transporting goods from the congregation farm.  He also frequently transported passengers.

In 1779 Henry and Anna Maria moved to Gnadental near Nazareth where he served as warden until 1785.  Anna Maria served as a mid-wife, delivering nearly 500 children.

Anna Maria died 06 Jun 1787 in Nazareth, Northampton Co., PA.  Henry died 10 Apr 1788 in Nazareth, Northampton Co., PA.  They were buried in Moravian Cemetery in Nazareth, Northampton Co., PA.

Henry and Anna Maria had five children:  1.  Charlotta (Holler) Bullitschek   2.  Maria Catharine Haller   3.  Abraham Haller   4.  Elizabeth (Haller) Glotz/Muecke   5.  Johannes Haller.

 

1.  Charlotta Haller was born 31 Aug 1741 at Muddy Creek, Lancaster Co., PA., a twin to Maria Catherine.  She married Joseph Bullitschek, the progenitor of the Bolejack/Bolerjack family, the subject of these histories.

 

2.  Maria Catharine Haller was born 31 Aug 1741 at Muddy Creek, Lancaster Co., PA.  She was received into the congregation at Bethlehem in 1758.  She died 21 Oct 1824 in __________ Co., __.  She was buried in Nazareth, Northampton Co., PA.  She never married.

 

3.  Abraham Haller was born 09 Jan 1744 at Muddy Creek, Lancaster Co., PA.  Other sources give his birth date as 29 Dec 1743.  He went to Bethlehem for his school examination in 1755 and then moved to Lititz with his parents.  In 1759 he moved to Bethlehem where he was received into the congregation on 26 May 1760.  He learned the shoemakers' craft.  He became ill with a fever and returned to Lititz on 25 Jun 1765 to stay with his parents.  He died 11 Oct 1765 in Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA.  He was buried in God's Acre in Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA.  He never married.

 

4.  Elizabeth Haller was born 02 May 1746 at Muddy Creek, Lancaster Co., PA.  Other sources give her birth date as 21 Apr 1746.  She lived in the Single Sisters' Choir House in Bethlehem until 25 Jun 1765 when she returned to Lititz.  She joined the Lititz congregation on 23 May 1766.  She married 1.) Elias Gloz/Glotz (born 07 Dec 1745 in __________ Co., __., son of Albrecht and Margaretha (Rieth) Gloz) on 04 Dec 1770 in Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA.  Elias worked on the congregational farm before their marriage, apparently meeting Elizabeth there.  Elias died 18 Feb 1777 in Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA. where he was buried.  Elizabeth married 2.) Peter Muecke (born 11 May 1747 in Nazareth, Northampton Co., PA., son of Matthew and Catharine (__________) Muecke) on __ ___ 1785 in __________ Co., __.  Peter died 30 Apr 1816 in __________ Co., __.  Elizabeth died 03 Sep 1818 in __________ Co., __.  They were buried in Nazareth, Northampton Co., PA.

 

5.  Johannes Haller was born 02 Jun 1751 in Frederickton, Washington Co., PA.  He died 11 Sep 1758 in Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA.  He was buried in the St. James Cemetery in Lititz, Lancaster Co., PA.
